For several days, heavy rainfall in Shaoguan, Guangdong, caused severe water damage and flooding. Streets became vast rivers that engulfed cars.
From May 21 to June 17, the cumulative average rainfall in Shaoguan City reached 522.9 mm ( 20.6 inches), a new record.
On June 19, the Shaoguan Meteorological Observatory upgraded the orange warning signal of heavy rain in the streets and towns of Wujiang District, ZhenjiangDistrict, and Qujiang District to red. All schools and out-of-school training institutions are closed in locations under red rainfall warning.
Because of the constant rainfall, the low-lying sections of the Zhenwu District faced waterlogging. As a result, many roads were flooded to the point of being impassable, and all bus services were suspended.
According to the Southern Metropolis Daily, a businessman in Maba Town, Qujiang District, said that many shops in the street were flooded, with some areas reaching a depth of over one meter (33 inches).
A video shows a flash flood in the Qujiang District that swept away a fire truck.
China’s media, Sina, reported a landslide that occurred in Huashan North Street on the evening of June 17, Xinfeng County, caused the irrigation facilities and streets to be damaged.
