A shooting at Oxford High School in suburban Detroit, Michigan on Tuesday, Nov. 30 has killed three students and wounded eight others, three of whom were in critical condition.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard at a news conference said they have arrested the suspect, a 15-year-old sophomore who used a handgun freshly bought by his father four days prior. The law enforcement received a 911 alert of an active shooter at the school around 1 p.m.

Two students, Hana St. Juliana, 14, and Madisyn Baldwin, 17, were killed at the shooting. The third victim, 16-year-old Tate Myre perished in a patrol car that was rushing him to hospital.

The gun attack left eight others injured, including a teacher who has been discharged from hospital after being treated for a graze in the shoulder.

Three students were in critical condition. TODAY reported that a 15-year-old boy has a gunshot wound in his head and a 14-year-old female has been put on a ventilator over neck and chest injuries.

The suspect was uninjured at the time of his apprehension.

Bouchard said the weapon, a 9mm SIG Sauer SP2022, was still loaded with seven bullets when the sheriff’s deputies detained the teenage suspect.

“That, I believe, interrupted what potentially could have been seven more victims,” the sheriff said.

The teenager has reserved his right to silence and did not provide any information about his motive for the violent actions. From screening through his social media activities, Bouchard said the teenager had rehearsed using the firearm before the Tuesday bloodshed, according to Associated Press

At least a dozen rounds were fired by the shooter before the authorities took him into custody.

“He did not cause any problems. He gave the weapon up,” Bouchard said as he revealed that the deputies captured the suspect just five minutes after arriving at the scene. “He didn’t have the weapon on him at the time.”

The district announced in a statement that all of its schools will be closed until next week.

A video of frightened students looking themselves up to avoid the armed teen has circulated online.
