“If anyone wants to watch an NBA game, don’t come to Linnie’s Pub,” the bar owner Jay Linneman said in a Facebook post. “We will not air them until Lebron James has been expelled from the NBA.”
The decision was made after LeBron James—a left-wing Democrat activist—posted a tweet about the police officer in Ohio who had to shoot and kill knife-wielding black teen Ma’Khia Bryant during a violent altercation to save another black girl.
The tweet of the NBA star reads:
“YOU’RE NEXT. #ACCOUNTABILITY.”
James also included an hourglass emoji, which is to show that time is running out.
The four-time NBA champion and Los Angeles Lakers star later removed the tweet, but a screenshot is available below.
As can be seen from the video of the incident, the officer in Ohio was put in a horrible situation when he saw a female teenager with a knife in hand lunging at another woman. The girl wielding the knife was later identified as Ma’Khia Bryant.
To save a life, he seemed to have no choice but to shoot Bryant.
In the video, Bryant was also heard screaming, “I’m going to stab the f*** out of you, b****,” as she lunged toward the girl before she was shot.
Linneman told The Cincinnati Enquirer that if high-ranking elected government officials did what James did, they would face calls to resign.
“They just need to play the game and that’s it,” he added. “Their opinion doesn’t really matter. They’re using their position to push their opinions, and that’s just not right.”
After learning about the news, James went to Twitter and ridiculed the bar’s decision:
“Aww Damn! I was headed there to watch our game tonight and have a drink! Welp.”
James’ initial tweet drew such a strong response that he deleted it less than two hours after publication. James responded to the situation with two tweets, and he did not apologize for what many saw as putting a target on the officer’s back.
“ANGER does [sic] any of us any good and that includes myself!” James said. “Gathering all the facts and educating does though! My anger still is here for what happened that lil girl. My sympathy for her family and may justice prevail!”
“I’m so damn tired of seeing Black people killed by police,” James continued. “I took the tweet down because its being used to create more hate. This isn’t about one officer. it’s about the entire system and they always use our words to create more racism. I am so desperate for more ACCOUNTABILITY.”
The NBA, Los Angeles Lakers, sponsors of LeBron James, and Twitter have all remained silent about the incident.
“LeBron James should focus on basketball rather than presiding over the destruction of the NBA, which has just recorded the lowest television RATINGS, by far, in the long and distinguished history of the League,” former President Donald Trump said in a statement. “His RACIST rants are divisive, nasty, insulting, and demeaning. He may be a great basketball player, but he is doing nothing to bring our Country together!”
Other politicians also reacted to James’s tweet:
